The Outlander star joined us on our latest episode of Scran to talk about his Sassenach whisky, haggis, favourite food and drinks and what drove him to create his own blended malt

The wide-ranging chat also revealed Sam’s favourite whiskies as well as some memorable and favourite foods.

He revealed at the BAFTA Burn’s night, where he hosted a soft launch of The Sassenach, he enjoyed a haggis which had been smuggled into America for the event.

"We recently had a sort of soft launch of our whisky in Los Angeles, at the BAFTA burns night, where I had to toast the haggis,” Sam said.

“The haggis had to be smuggled into America, because haggis is is illegal there. I think it was Macsween haggis as well, which was tremendous. It's one of the best.”

One not so fond memory of the Outlander star was of a very different haggis...that didn't go down so well.

Outlander fans will know that his whisky is named for his on-screen wife Claire, who Sam’s character affectionately calls Sassenach.

Sam explains why this name works well for the blended malt, saying: “Jamie uses it (in Outlander) as a term of endearment and that's what we wanted to do with the whisky.

"We want it to be for the outsider, for people that don't know about whisky, or ones that want to access whisky and need somewhere to start. The name fits really well with the brand.”
