As the days get shorter and colder, it’s an ideal time to cook comforting hearty dishes. Rosalind Erskine looks at some of the best new cookbooks offering just that.

The autumn months of September and October will see a slew of new books, including cookbooks, as publishers look towards Christmas shopping.

Regardless if you’re buying for a gift or yourself, we’ve listed some of the best new cookbooks available this autumn, including some celebrity releases and The Hebridean Baker’s fourth book.

Hebridean Baker: The Scottish Cookbook by Coinneach MacLeod

Between Two Waters: Heritage, landscape and the modern cook by Pam Brunton

The first cookbook from Pam Brunton, chef and owner of Inver, an award-winning restaurant on the shores of Loch Fyne. Between Two Waters follows Pam’s journey of trying to answer ‘what makes modern Scottish food’ by looking at culinary heritage.

A Thousand Feasts: Small Moments of Joy … a Memoir of Sorts by Nigel Slater

Award-winning writer and TV chef Nigel Slater is set to release his latest book, in which he shares snapshots into his life, travels and kitchen. Taken from Slater’s notebooks of wonderings and recollections, whether written at home, sheltering from a blizzard in Japan or from a rain soaked fisherman’s hut in Iceland, these anecdotes and memories, often with - as you can imagine - food at the heart of them give fans of Slater a rare insight into his life beyond the kitchen.

Cafe Cecilia cookbook by Max Rocha, with a foreword by Diana Henry

Café Cecilia is a beloved neighbourhood restaurant serving simple Irish and European inspired food, that has become not only a foodie haven, but a huge hit with an international art and fashion crowd as well as one or two celebrities (Nigella Lawson called it “some of the absolute best cooking in London”).
