Scottish chippies from across the country have made the top 50 takeaways and top 10 restaurants in the UK list for 2024.
Organised and awarded by Fry Magazine The UK’s 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways and 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants lists are announced after months of mystery dining. Judges scrutinise a range of aspects including the quality of the food, the cleanliness of the premises, staff knowledge, value for money, ease of ordering and social media presence.
Chippies can get 100 percent if they score well on every section, but they need to achieve at least 95.5 percent or over to win an award while restaurants need a score of 95 percent or higher to make the list - high scores indeed.
Now in its 12th year, judges' comments for 2024 included “the cod was delicious”, “no improvement is necessary, the service was second to none and I felt valued” and “the best fish and chips I have had”.
Reece Head, competition organiser, said: “It gives me great pleasure to announce this year’s 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways and 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants winners.
“Despite the formidable challenges posed by inflationary pressures that have affected every aspect of the industry, these remarkable establishments continue to deliver top quality fish and chips using the finest ingredients.
"Their dedication extends beyond the plate, as they invest in cutting-edge equipment to facilitate seamless and swift transactions, coupled with rigorous training in customer service. Uncompromising in their standards, they are truly the best in the business and deserve their recognition.”
In total there are nine Scottish fish and chip businesses on the 2024 list, with some staying on from 2023.
Scottish entries in the top 50 best fish and chip takeaways include:
Anstruther Fish Bar, Anstruther, Fife
Garioch Fish Bar, Inverurie, Aberdeenshire
Mike’s Famous Fish And Chips, Blackburn, Aberdeenshire
