One man spent 18 months perfecting how to cook KFC-style chicken at home - here's the recipe

If you're missing your KFC fix, then you can now try and recreate the famous fried chicken at home thanks to one man's efforts.

One man has spent 18 months perfecting a recipe which he claims is a close substitute to KFC, and he has shared how to make it online.

As we all prepare for the UK lockdown to continue, most of us are missing our favourite restaurants, bars and being able to meet friends - with many of us craving popular treats such as McDonald's or KFC.

Now one man, Dan Fell from Warwickshire, has shared a recipe he has developed so that we can make KFC-like chicken at home.

Dan says it took him over 18 months to perfect the recipe, which mimics the fast food chain's unique blend of 11 herbs and spices.

Posting on Twitter, Dan said: "I’ve cooked this a huge number of times, you get better each time.

“I’d say my strike rate for “mate you really cannot tell the difference” is about four out of the last five times. I’ll take that.”

Dan added that the secret to success is all about having a perfect combination of ingredients, and offers this advice: “You have to have a deep fryer and you need the right mix of the herbs and spices.

"The oil needs to be 160-165C no more and no less, and the chicken needs to be room temperature and you use egg white and milk as the wash (no yolk).”

Anyone wanting to try it out can follow the recipe below, as posted on Dan's video, which has over 58,000 views.

The recipe

Method

Preheated the oven to 80C.

Add the spices to the flour and mix well.

Make sure the chicken is at room temperature before seasoning it in the flour and spice mix.

After coating the chicken in seasoning, brush it with the egg white and milk wash before popping it back in the seasoning.

Fry the chicken for five to six minutes at 160C before putting it in the preheated oven to keep warm.

Fry for 90 seconds before serving.

Posting pictures of the finished results, Dan said: "Two different batches. Flavour really depends on many factors, the oil used. Temperature, chicken temp, temp of egg wash, salt on the chicken. But you are hard pressed not to get 7.5/10 to 10/10 for this recipe."

The video currently has 990 retweets and 3.6K likes, with many users praising his recipe and showing their efforts.
