The hugely popular restaurant. Six by Nico and chef and owner Nico Simeone are the focus of a new BBC Scotland programme - Nico’s Menu Mission.

The six weekly tasting menu concept that put Six by Nico on the map started in Finnieston in Glasgow - and has been successfully introduced to Edinburgh, Belfast, Liverpool and Manchester.

In the four part series we follow 29 year old chef Nico on his mission to take his brand across the UK.

His idea - an affordable six course tasting menu which is changed every six weeks – is a huge hit on the restaurant scene in Scotland but the son of a chip shop owner is not prepared to rest on his laurels.

The advert for the first episode focuses on Nico opening in Belfast, gives an overview of what viewers can expect, saying: "The first theme at Belfast is the highly respected chippy menu.

"We see how Nico takes everyday dishes - chips and cheese, scampi, steak pie - and with a twist of creative power, turns them into fine dining. Another unique aspect of Nico’s restaurants is the price - it is less than half the price of other tasting menus.

“Will the menu and the price be successful in Belfast? With three days to go, the restaurant still looks like a building site. Will they beat the clock and be able to open in time?”

Episode two, which will be shown on 2 July looks at Nico's Manchester restaurant with all the twists and turns you'd expect from a new venture.

The teaser for this says: "In this second episode, he’s turning his attention to England after a successful opening in Belfast.

"He sets his sights on premises in the heart of an established restaurant hub in Manchester.

"With only five weeks to go before the planned opening, the project is hit with the additional expense of installing a costly filtration system otherwise planning permission will be refused and 32 year old executive chef Colin finds recruiting new staff is a frustrating business.

"Meanwhile Nico and his parents, Giovanni and Carla, reflect on the stress caused by two early ventures which failed and how the ambitious plans were put back on track with the help of an innovative social media strategy.

"Back in Manchester, the clock is ticking. There are just three days to go, planning permission is still not through and now there’s a licensing problem."

Nico's Menu Mission starts on 25 June at 10.30pm on BBC Scotland.
