Waitrose are hoping to delight foodies with the launch of special avocado themed chocolate eggs this Easter.

Writing in their monthly newsletter the supermarket brand wrote: “As the nation’s love affair with avocados shows no sign of slowing, Waitrose has revealed a fabulous Easter egg for 2018, an egg-citing Chocolate Avocado, which looks just like the real thing.

“The unique avocado shaped mould has been designed for avo-ficianados to enjoy this Easter.”

Both the shell and stone of the faux avacado are made from Belgian chocolate, while the white chocolate middle uses “natural colouring to imitate the green flesh of the fruit”.

The Waitrose team confirmed there are no avocado flavourings added so the Easter treat will taste only of chocolate.

The Chocolate Avocado, which will cost £8, is available in Waitrose branches nationwide and online, from 19th February.

The firm also announced that they have also enlisted innovative chef Heston Blumenthal to create a Mad Hatter themed cake.

Costing £45, the cake features four flavours of sponge: sherbet lemon, raspberry jam, chocolate with blackcurrant flavouring and salted caramel with fudge and honeycomb pieces,  sitting on a chocolate and almond tiffin base – with the whole thing covered in chocolate fudge icing.
