5 Scottish bars and restaurants make GQ food and drink awards shortlist for 2023

The glossy magazine has revealed its shortlist of the best places to eat and drink in the UK, and five are in Scotland.

The shortlist for the 2023 GQ food and drink awards have been announced, with winners revealed in April.

How do the GQ Awards work?

Readers can vote in categories such as favourite bar, restaurant, bartender, front of house staff, hotel etc, with the judging panel having the final say on who wins.

The GQ team also award someone with a Lifetime Achievement, as well as the Editor’s Special Award.

The 2023 GQ Awards sees five Scottish businesses nominated. These are: Unalome by Graeme Cheevers in Glasgow for Best Restaurant, Roberta Hall-McCarron at The Little Chartroom, Edinburgh for Best Chef, Gleneagles Townhouse, Edinburgh for Best Hotel, The Absent Ear, Glasgow for Best Bar and The Palmerston, Edinburgh for Best Breakthrough.

Glasgow speakeasy bar, The Absent Ear, wrote about their nomination on social media: "We are absolutely delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for @belvederevodka Best Bar at this year’s @gq Food & Drink Awards!

"After two years of extremely hard work, it still feels surreal to be able to put it into writing. Besides pinching ourselves every few seconds, we are excited to see how we fare against some of the UK’s finest at the awards show next month.

"Once again, thank you for the continued custom and generous support for our crazy crafts, we really couldn’t have done it without you!"
