The best places in Scotland to pick your own sunflowers this summer

Pick your own has been a popular pastime for fruit farms, but now many are expanding into flowers.

Summer in Scotland means the return of world class soft fruit. Many fruit farms across the country offer a pick your own experience, and have done for years.

But more recently, some have expanded into pick your own sunflowers, with many also offering sunflower trails. It’s a fun day out for all the family. Here are some of the best places in Scotland to pick your own sunflowers.

Cononsyth Farms, Angus

This family-run farm has a sunflower maze and opens for pick your own flowers. Last year you could book to do this from late July, with the flower picking season running throughout August.

Visitors can walk through the sunflower maze, with activities for children also available. Sunflowers were priced at £1 per stem or six stems for £5.

The farm is also home to Scottish honeyberries, which are also available to pick. These small blue fruits are a member of the edible honeysuckle family and have great health benefits.

The Flower Field, Oatyhill Aberdeenshire

You might have driven past this lovely field of flowers, which has become a popular spot to pick your own. In the spring there are Tulips, Iris and Allium while in summer you can pick Sunflowers, Gladioli and Dahlia.

There's an honesty box at the entrance to the field where you can pay for the flowers, prices are also shown.

Reviews call the flowers "gorgeous" and how it's a good spot for some pictures.

Cairnie Fruit Farm, Fife

This popular farm, which opens every summer for fruit picking also has a maze, farm activities, a farm shop, a tea room and a holiday cottage.

As well as pick your own strawberries in the summer and pumpkins in the autumn, in late summer visitors can walk in the small field of sunflowers and pick their own blooms.

Balgone Estate, East Lothian

This farm, located about two miles from North Berwick, is a hive of activity throughout the year being an arable farm.

You might know it as having a huge pumpkin patch, with pick your own pumpkins taking place in October. But in summer, there’s a 14 acre field of sunflowers, which you can book to pick.

Enjoy the vibrant beauty and diversity of up to 10 different sunflower varieties growing across
the expansive field.

Visitors can select and cut their favourites to take home, with bouquet wrapping
available from the talented floral team using estate-grown wildflowers and foliage. Sunflowers
are sold at £1 a stem and tickets for cars are from £18.

There’s a coffee shop on the farm, but during the pick your own season there’s street food available which, this year includes:

  • HERD Cafe: Coffee, cakes and morning rolls, and takeaways.
  • BALGONE BBQ: Produce is directly sourced from the farm.
  • Wild at Heart Street Food: Toasties and Loaded Fries.
  • Wanderers Kneaded: Authentic handmade pizza.
  • Loop & Scoop: Fried Chicken, Churros, and Ice Cream.
  • Slumdog: Indian Street Food.

This year there are new additions to the farm, including photography sessions; Big Green Egg BBQ experience; evening time slots and rent a plot - a private space within thr sunflower fields for workshops, yoga sessions, wine tastings, art classes, or intimate gatherings. Rentals include access to thr stretch tent and customised catering options.

Craigie's Fruit Farm, Queensferry

This fruit farm has been welcoming families to pick their own fruit over the summer season for years. There’s a cafe and deli and plenty of activities for kids.

Fruit picking includes strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants, brambles and cherries. 

In late summer you can visit to also pick sunflowers.

Gloagburn Farm Shop, Perth

This popular farm shop, just off the A9 in Tibbermore near Perth, is owned and run by third generation farmers. 

It has a busy deli, coffee shop, farm shop, in-house butchery and gift shop making it an ideal place to stop for a bite to eat.

You can make a day of it with the sunflower picking. Sadly the bad weather this year has meant that the crops aren’t great, but stick August 2026 in the diary for a sunflower trail day.
