One of the best loved cocktails, a whisky old fashioned is an ideal drink for those looking to try whisky for the first time.

This recipe uses Loch Lomond single malt, and was developed by Loch Lomond and Glen Scotia Single Malt brand ambassador, Ibon Mendiguren.

Ingredients

50ml Loch Lomond Original Single Malt whisky
Angostura bitters
150g sugar
150ml water
Orange
Lemon
Ice (larger the better)

Method:

To make the simple syrup, heat the water till it simmers.

Add the sugar and continue to heat gently until the sugar has dissolved.

In a mixing glass, add 4-5 tbsp of simple syrup and a few drops of Angostura bitters.

Add a splash of whisky and mix.

Add ice cubes and stir well to blend the flavours.

Chill a serving glass by placing the glass in cold water.

Add more ice and the rest of the whisky and continue to stir.
