Tom Kitchin announces new Edinburgh restaurant opening

This November, Michelin-starred chef Tom Kitchin and his award-winning team will open their fourth restaurant, Southside Scran, in the heart of Bruntsfield in Edinburgh.

Featuring an open rotisserie in the middle of the brass-accented, open-plan dining room, the Edinburgh bistro’s menu will incorporate the best of Scotland’s produce, with hints of Tom's passion for French cuisine.

It will be the first time that Kitchin Group has brought the ‘from nature to plate’ philosophy to the south side of the city, following the success of The Kitchin in Leith, Castle Terrace, and The Scran & Scallie in Stockbridge.

Chef Tom Kitchin, his wife Michaela as well as their business partner Dominic Jack of Castle Terrace along with their teams have a real passion for seasonal Scottish fare.

Once again, the team will use only the freshest, local produce at Southside, and  the menu will reflect Chef Kitchin and Chef Jack's passion for modern adaptations of traditional dishes.

Diners can also look forward to a daily selection of seafood.

At Southside Scran guests will enter into an elegant bar, leading through to the dining room that will feature a mix of rustic wood and classic floor tiles in a nod to traditional French bistro-style.

The space and interiors, designed by Tom's wife Michaela Kitchin and Stephen Paterson of Burn's Design, will incorporate shades of dark green and rust-coloured pink, with natural light flooding through the large street-facing windows.

The restaurant will have twists on classic bistro banquette seating using a variation of different textures, materials and fabrics, with bespoke lighting features throughout.

The drinks list at Southside Scran will feature a strong wine focus, with a unique selection of wines picked by Kitchin Group's Head Sommelier Joel Bastian from a variety of small independent producers, both old and new world.

As with the menu, an array of cocktails will change depending on what’s in season.

“Over the years we have often been asked when we're going to open a restaurant in the south side of Edinburgh.

"Bruntsfield is very charming and it just felt like the right place for us to create a neighbourhood restaurant where people can enjoy a meal with their family and friends,” says Tom.

“The open rotisserie has long been a dream of ours and we can't wait to showcase new dishes and ways of cooking with Scotland's incredible produce.”
