The cosy Scottish inn in picturesque town that serves the 'best Sunday roast'

This charming inn has been named as one of the best places for a Sunday roast, making it well worth a visit this winter.

The Good Food Guide has announced its Top 50 Best Sunday Roasts in the UK after a whopping 18,000 public nominations, showing that this weekend meal is a staple for many.

Restaurants, cafes and pubs around Britain were visited by the Good Food Guide, in order to find the top 50.

Only four Scottish businesses made the list, and one of these was Perthshire's Coorie Inn

The Guide’s search for the Best Sunday Roast, supported by Koffmann’s Potatoes and Tracklements, champions restaurants, pubs and cafes that are the backbone of the British dining scene and from the thousands of nominations received, it is clear a Sunday roast is, by far, the nation’s favourite dish.

Coorie Inn’s Sunday Roast has had diners flocking to the Muthill venue in their droves and the news is bound to make it even more popular.

Chef/proprietor Phill Skinazi said of the news: “Coorie Inn’s Sunday Roast is one of our best and busiest days in the restaurant and we put immense effort into what we serve. The atmosphere here on a Sunday is so special and we love having a full house for the delicious roast.

“It’s been a hugely successful but challenging first year for us since we took over the venue. It’s the icing on the cake - or rather the gravy on the beef to be included in The Good Food Guide alongside many other impressive places to eat.  We hope our customers will join in celebrating with us”.

Located in Crieff, the Coorie Inn is an 18th century coaching inn that’s now a restaurant with rooms. Serving lunch and dinner - and the now famous Sunday roast - there’s a bar and lounge for drinks and a restaurant that serves seafood and local game as well as veggie options.

Of Coorie Inn, the Good Food Guide said: “Formerly Barley Bree, this reinvigorated 18th-century coaching inn is earning plenty of plaudits, especially when it comes to Sunday lunch. The vibe is cosy, friendly staff seldom miss a beat, and the food is as local as possible. Among the delicious offerings, you might find loin of Perthshire pork, roast top rump of Scottish beef or whole roast corn-fed chicken to share. Seasonal greens, artisan cheeses, luscious desserts, excellent wines – ‘every detail is rich and delectable.’”

The other Scottish restaurants named in the Good Food Guide Best Sunday Roast were the Loveable Rogue west end in Glasgow (“Expect comfort food in the shape of rare, ‘butter-soft’ Speyside beef, gigantic Yorkshires, garlicky roast potatoes cooked in beef fat, brisket mac 'n' cheese, honeyed roots, crushed vegetables and lashings of red-wine gravy”), Porter and Rye in Glasgow (“Dry-aged beef is king at this steakhouse and cocktail bar, so expect a proper meat-fest on Sundays”.)  and Hawsmoor in Edinburgh.
