New cafe Boardwalk Beach Club, in Marine Drive, Silverknowes, will open its doors in a matter of days – offering the best in freshly-roasted coffee, tasty treats and stunning views.
And the venue’s owners hope the revamped outlet will spark the regeneration of a long-neglected corner of Edinburgh, putting it firmly back on the map.
Eye-catching snaps show the building’s interior – which previously housed a rundown cafe and takeaway – converted into a top-of-the-range eatery, complete with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the beach and Cramond Island.
Eddie Tait, who is behind the scheme, said the cafe’s name was inspired by architect Sir Terry Farrell’s vision of a ten-mile boardwalk running along the shore between Cramond and Portobello.
The ambitious plan would have formed a key part of the wider regeneration of the waterfront, but proposals stalled in the aftermath of the 2008 economic crash.
Entrepreneur Mr Tait, who took over the site last June, said: “It has taken a lot of hard work to get us to this point and we are all very excited about what the future holds.
“We can’t wait to throw open the doors and start welcoming people in to the Boardwalk Beach Club.
“People ask us about the name and we came up with it as a tribute to the power of work done by the architect Sir Terry Farrell with his 2008 Edinburgh Boardwalk Strategy.
“When you look at the stunning location on the Cramond foreshore, it is amazing to think we are just three miles from the centre of Scotland’s capital city.
“The views across the Forth from the cafe are quite breathtaking and we hope people from Edinburgh and beyond take the time to visit. They won’t be disappointed.
“The area has been in desperate need for something like this and we would love the cafe to be part of an inspiring regeneration of this community. San Francisco has its bay, France has its riviera and we have our fabulous foreshore on the Costa del Edimburgo.
“Hopefully the Beach Club helps put the promenade and all its rich history back on the map and makes it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.”
Boardwalk Beach Club will offer teas. coffees, home baking and Luca’s ice cream – with chocolate provided by Harvey Nichols’ supplier.
