The Glasgow Indian restaurant, located in Candleriggs has created two new natural dishes for the Punjabi festival also known as Baisakhi, or Vaishakhi which is celebrated on 14 April.

It’s the start of the Solar New Year, and in India people get together to harvest wheat while others play drums and dance Bhangra.

Dhabba chef JD has come up with a free dish to replace the poppadoms usually served at the restaurant for diners.

Every table this Sunday will receive Amla ka Murabba, Chilka Gehun Kebab and some mini poppadoms (instead of the usual poppadoms and dips).

Amla ka Murabba is a sweet Indian gooseberry preserve flavoured with cardamom, saffron, black pepper and black salt while Chilka Gehun Kebabs are small kebabs made from black lentil hulls and cracked wheat, well spiced and deep fried.

Dhabba owner Navdeep Basi said: “Vaisakhi is a day of giving thanks and paying tribute to God for an abundant harvest and praying for future prosperity.

"Secondly it commemorates the day that Sikhism was born as a collective faith in 1699 when the tenth guru of the Sikhs – Guru Gobind Singh – invited his disciples to join him to form the community of committed Sikhs.

"The harvest festival is observed not only in Punjab, India but also Pakistan, Malyasia, Afghanistan, Africa, United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Our chef has come up with a very fitting dish for the occasion and we are delighted to gift it to our customers on Sunday.”
