It's been a mainstay of western cuisine for decades and over the years the humble burger has a remained a constant favourite in cities and towns around the UK.
Delivered in many forms from fast food to gourmet, our enthusiasm for this delightful dish has rarely dampened and with the recent influx of global brands, UK chains and small local independents offering every type imaginable it now seems more popular than ever.
And as it's National Burger Day we thought we'd celebrate by aksing some of the top food bloggers and Scotsman critics in the capital to pick their favourites.

Gaby said: "Bread Meats Bread is good, though, unless you're young and have a speedy metabolism, I'd only schedule in a visit annually, since the burgers are so huge and lardy.
"With side dishes like Quebecois speciality poutine and bacon topped fries, leave two pounds heavier, but very happy."

"The Big Lebowski Burger was my stand-out, double minced steak patty oozing with 2 thick wedges of cheddar cheese, crisp lettuce, tomato and burger sauce.
"You might want to fast for half a day beforehand in preparation for this monster."
