Hoping to entice newbies to take a chance on our national drink, the Festival will introduce a special 'beginners' area that will feature talks and workshops from industry insiders.
As well as this, the Edinburgh Whisky Festival will bring more than 50 whisky producers, makers and bottlers together under one roof on Saturday 17th June, for a one-day celebration of all things liquid gold.
Eddie Ludlow, Founder of The Whisky Lounge, said: “We are always trying to achieve our mission of turning everyone on to whisky. This year, we are upping the fun factor and interactivity levels by adding the whisky creche, which will be hosted by the HuffPost UK’s Matt Chambers, as well as cocktail workshops and a ‘Blending Lab’ – where festival-goers can have a go at making their own blended whisky.”
“We want to provide a laid back, informal environment where we can break down barriers, unlock myths, educate and excite those who haven’t ever tried whisky or are cautious about where to start.”
More than 150 whiskies will be available to taste at the Festival, which is celebrating its fifth year in Edinburgh and will return to the Assembly Rooms on George Street from 12-9pm.
Brands including Bowmore, Macallan, Jameson, Glenlivet and Talisker are amongst those exhibiting.
Eddie added: “We’re holding Whisky Festivals in eight UK cities this year and we’ll be inviting the top three ‘home’ blenders from our Blending Labs to compete in a ‘Best of the Fest’ competition in Birmingham. The overall winner will help create a special 10th Anniversary blend to celebrate The Whisky Lounge’s 10th birthday in 2018, with proceeds from the bottles’ sale donated to a charity of their choice.”
