Choosing somewhere to take your partner on a night out is always a bit of a dilemma. Whether you've been out with them for a few weeks or several decades, you're always out to impress and ensure your other half has a great time.

With this in mind, we've done the hard work for you and picked out some of the best places and events to check out in Glasgow this weekend:

The West End Beer Festival - Glasgow

(31st July - 1st August, Cafe Source Too, Glasgow)

The first annual West End Beer Festival is being held at Cafe Source Too in Hughenden Sports ground at Hillhead Sports Club.

The event will run in three sessions over two days and entry is £6 - with a discounted price of £4 for members of CAMRA and Hillhead Sports Club - and if your partner is a fan of great beer there's no better place to go this weekend.

Featuring some of the most exciting and up-and-coming breweries in Scotland including Ayr Brewing Co, Jaw Brew, Monolith, Tryst and Fallen, the festival will also feature the Good Spirits Co and  some great cider from David Patterson's Cider Stall.

Be quick, though – tickets are selling fast.

You probably won't have heard of Turnip & Enjoy but if you have you'll know how truly brilliant it is. One of Great Western Road's - and indeed Glasgow's - best-kept secrets, T & E offers haute cuisine at affordable prices, you'll have a great meal and still have money left over for drinks afterwards.

With a stripped back but classic aesthetic, the restaurant is small without being claustrophobic and the serving staff are knowledgeable, friendly and always willing to go the extra mile.

We recommend the beef shin crepinette with heritage carrots, kale and celeriac puree or the nettle and pine nut tortellinis, but to be honest you'll find it hard to make a bad choice as all of the food on offer is truly excellent.

Let's face it: ever since Tom Cruise's perfectly choreographed moves graced the screen in the film Cocktail, the world has been slightly crazy for mixologists and their creations.

There are few better ways to enjoy a night out than in your partner's company, in a great setting, with some truly excellent drinks.

Best of all, Booly's aren't pretentious about the art of mixology, so the bar staff won't care if you don't know the difference between a Woo Woo and an Old Fashioned – they'll be more than happy to help by offering advice and talking you through the cocktail menu.

Should the weather be nice (one can but hope) then a nice walk through Glasgow Green followed by a visit to the old Templeton building is a great way to while away the day together.

Stop off for a bit of lunch in the excellent surroundings of the brewery bar before grabbing a beer and heading outside to enjoy the sun in WEST's excellent beer garden.

Enjoy dinner and drinks in Princes Square

More famous for its retail offering, Princes Square actually has some great restaurants and bars to enjoy.

Whether it be Scottish cuisine at Crannachan, Tapas at Barca or Caribbean food at Sugar Dumplin, you'll be spoiled for choice by their excellent range of eateries.

Best of all, you don't have to leave the stunning surroundings of the centre after you've finished dinner as you can head to October for cocktails.
