Scots rum distiller unveils Star Wars themed cocktail recipes to celebrate launch of new film

The distillers behind Dark Matter Spiced Rum have teamed up with top mixologists to create a range of cocktails designed to celebrate the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Dark Matter, Scotland’s first and only purpose built rum distillery, tasked bartenders from across the UK to create the cocktails using their award-winning spiced rum.

Andy Stewart, head bartender at Aberdeen’s subterranean speakeasy The Tippling House, created the Obi-Rum – an elegant blend of spicy Dark Matter and subtle, fragrant aromas.

While the Wookie Fuzzball – the chocolatey brainchild of Kieran Stephens of Rothes’ The Station Hotel – is sure to satisfy even the most stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf-herders.

Meanwhile, Georgi Radev, cocktail Jedi at Mayfair celebrity haunt Mahiki, has created two unique concoctions – Kessel Rum and Dark Vader.

Infused with the bar’s signature Tiki flavours, they’ll tempt even the purest of heart to turn to the dark side.

A Dark Matter spokesman said: “These drinks serve as the perfect preparation for Star Wars fans across galaxies far, far away and closer to home.

“Whether you choose to follow the recipes, or pop into the bars to ask the experts to whip one up for you, these are the drinks you’re looking for.”

• 35ml Dark Matter Spiced Rum
• 15ml overproof rum
• 20ml vanilla and cinnamon syrup
• 15ml orange juice
• 1 egg


Shake all ingredients and double-strain into the glass. Garnish with smouldering cinnamon stick.

Wookie Fuzzball

(Kieran Stephens of The Station Hotel, Rothes, Speyside)



• 37.5ml Dark Matter Spiced Rum
• 12.5ml hazelnut liqueur
• 12.5ml caramel syrup
• 50ml fresh coffee from bean
• 12.5ml Cacao white liqueur
• Chocolate syrup


Add all ingredients except chocolate syrup into a shaker; shake well and strain into chilled glass that has chocolate syrup spiral drizzle inside.

Garnish with chocolate vermicelli and marzipan “wookie belt”.

Kessel Rum

• 50ml Dark Matter Spiced Rum
• 20ml Re’al pumpkin spice
• 30ml apple juice
• 30ml coconut water
• 10ml lime juice

Shake ingredients. Serve with an apple fan on lime wedge and cherry.

Dark Vader

(Georgi Radev of Mahiki Cocktail Bar and Club, Mayfair, London)



• 50ml Dark Matter Spiced Rum
• 20ml Re’al ginger
• 15ml elderflower
• 25ml lemon juice
• 1 egg white
• 20ml soda


Shake ingredients and serve over ice cubes.

Garnish with lemon flower and Angostura Vader face stencilled on top.
