Here's how you can get free cakes with a cocktail delivery this weekend

Treat yourself to cakes and cocktails at home this weekend.

Two Glasgow independents have teamed up to spread some sweet joy this weekend by offering a combination of indulgent cakes and cocktails.

Launching on Thursday 15 October the new collaboration will see 50 lucky Glaswegians treated to free baked goodies from award-winning family bakers, McGhee’s Bakery.

Bringing some much-needed light relief during the local lockdown and celebrating the launch of McGhee's new hand crafted range, the first 50 customers to buy a cocktail from Glasgow Cocktail Collective (GCC) will receive a tasty surprise with their order this weekend.

Treats from the new McGhee’s hand crafted range include milk chocolate fudge doughnuts, chocolate brownies, topped with milk and white chocolate chunks and lemon meringue empire biscuits.

Cocktail lovers can enjoy any drinks from the GCC portfolio such as their Ribena Margarita, the ever-popular Jolly Rancher from Vodka Wodka, or a Blood Orange Margarita created by Phillie’s of Shawlands with Cascabel Blanco, Cointreau, fresh blood orange juice and a squeeze of lime.

GCC was set up in May to support local businesses and gives bars the opportunity to continue operating during the lockdown.

Founding members of the Collective include city centre favourite Blue Dog, Vodka Wodka in the west end, alongside Redmonds and Phillies of Shawlands.

You can order drinks from your favourite bars from the GCC App, Deliveroo or at The Bevy Store, ready for same-day delivery contact-free to your door.

Fraser McIlwraith, founder of Dark Art Drinks and Glasgow Cocktail Collective explains: “Cakes and cocktails - what a combo.

"We’re delighted to partner with McGhee’s Bakery to offer some dessert surprises to our customers this weekend. If you’re one of the lucky 50, you’ll get to enjoy a free cheeky baked treat and one of our delicious cocktails at the same time.

“It’s been a really hard week for hospitality, and by continuing to order from GCC, you’re helping to support your favourite bars during lockdown. It’s why we’ve brought back same-day delivery to make it easier for our customers to order.”

Gordon McGhee, managing director of McGhee’s Bakery, said: “We’re delighted to collaborate with GCC and bring some cheer to Glaswegians this weekend – enjoy your cakes and cocktails.”
