Despite reports that The Ivy would open the doors to its new restaurant in the city this spring, the brand have confirmed that diners will have to wait a bit longer.

In August last year, The Ivy Collection confirmed reports that they were set to open their second Scottish restaurant, after the successful launch of The Ivy on the Square in Edinburgh.

Located in the city centre in the former Nationwide building society building at 106 Buchanan Street, the group is hoping to obtain a first floor and basement, making the space ideal for a large outlet and akin to what will be available in Edinburgh’s The Ivy on the Square.

Eric Garnier, general manger of The Ivy on the Square said: “A Glasgow restaurant will open, and it is going to be different but I think it’ll work as we will do something for the city that people will enjoy and we want to provide something that they want.

“There are some very good restaurants in the city, and there’s a lot of people who know what they are doing – they understand the Glasgow market, which has changed a lot recently – but we plan to add to the dining scene.

“I am excited to open in Edinburgh as it will be a big lesson for us before we move on to Glasgow. Knowing that Edinburgh and Glasgow are very different, but there’s still a Scottish culture (in each) at the end of the day.”

It is thought that the group will invest around £2,000,000 to transform the site into a ground floor bar and first floor brasserie style restaurant – with a total of 180 cover inside and a further 24 covers outdoors on Royal Bank Place. And it is thought that the brasserie will be called ‘The Ivy, House 106.’

A representative of the restaurant group confirmed to the Glasgowist today: “The Ivy Collection has been granted planning permission for a space on 106 Buchanan Street, to open a brasserie in early 2019. The restaurant will feature an all-day dining menu and will be open 7 days a week.

“The Ivy Collection is a group of restaurants, brasseries and cafés, established in London and now growing regionally across the UK, offering accessible, all-day dining for locals and visitors alike. Each location is carefully handpicked to value, reflect and add to the local area.”
