Edinburgh-based beer club for women to host hosting exciting donut and beer pairing for 'Galentine's Day'

A popular Edinburgh-based beer club for women is offering drinks fans the chance to enjoy an exclusive donut and beer pairing to celebrate 'Galentine's Day'. 

The unofficial holiday is celebrated the day before Valentine's Day as a day for celebrating female friendship and "ladies celebrating ladies", and springs from hugely popular Parks and Recreation and the mind of Amy Poehler's character Leslie Knope.

Taking place on the 13th of February, the capital's 'women who beer group' Beers Without Beards are teaming up with two of the city's food and drink favourites in The Kilted Donuts and Cross Borders Brewery, to create a special pairing event.

The group started off as a small group of women who like beer and enjoy drinking and learning about it but it has grown in popularity with the mission statement that they are not about excluding men but creating a “safe space” for women to experiment and learn about craft beer, appealing to new members who wish to get more from their favourite drink in an industry that has traditionally been male-dominated.

Amélie Tassin, founder of Beers Without Beards said: “Even if we know Galentine’s day is a fictional holiday, we do believe that celebrating friendship and especially female friendship is a great and positive way to empower women.

"It’s also a message of support to all the women who may feel lonely at this period of the year 'You’re not alone, we have your back!'”

The special event will see five donuts expertly paired with five beers, with the debut of a brand new cheese donut, exclusively made for the event by the Leith based Kilted Donut team.

During the evening, guests will also have the opportunity to sample some of the latest Cross Borders beers alongside their classics. The tasting will take place from 7pm at the brewery's taproom in Dalkeith.
