Beer Makes Glasgow was launched in August last year in a bid to help the city's beer fans after the collapse of theย Great Scottish Beer Celebration in the wake ofย Hippo Beers Ltd going into liquidation.
After a successful event last year, and following the recent fire at the Glasgow Art School, it's now moved to a new venue with popular brewery and events space Drygate, in the east end of the city playing host.
The brainchild of the brewers and people involved in the Glasgow beer scene, who decided to take it upon themselves to attempt to rebrand and save the doomed Great Scottish Beer Celebration, the eventย provided a way to ensureย the many tickets already sold to the public didn't go to waste.
Eventually going ahead on the 25th and 26th of August last year at the Glasgow School of Art, it was decided that the new event should have charity at the heart of its offering with all ticket profitsย donated to the Drumchapel foodbank and all the previously sold tickets for the original event remaining valid.
Thanks to the generosity of the organisers and the popularity of the revamped eventย nearly ยฃ2000 was raised for the foodbank.
This year, the organisers say it will be even bigger and better, and, once again, they'll be raising fundsย to support Drumchapel Food Bank, with all money generated from ticket sales donated directly to Scotlandโs only independently operated food bank.
Split over three sessions -ย Friday 24 (6pm until midnight), Saturday 25 (12pm โ 5pm), andย Saturday 25 (6pm until midnight) - and a free bonus "Kick the
Keg" session on the Sunday, the festival will feature some of the country's top breweries as well as food and live entertainment.
Beginning this Friday (24 August) with a night of funk, soul, techno, hip hop and house from Glasgowโs own DJ Pasty and the food bank's very own volunteer coordinator, Kid Robotik of Togo Fam and Subfriction Records, this will then be followed by a chillout session on the Saturday afternoonย soundtracked by the folk-tinged pop songs of John Rush.
Saturday evening will round out the final session of Beer Makes Glasgow 2018 with ska and reggae specialistsย Ruder Than Rude.
Breweries attending the event will include Glasgow's ownย Drygate Brewing Co, Up Front Brewing, Gallus Brewing,ย Merchant City Brewery and Dead End Brew Machine, joined by breweries from around Scotland such asย Fallen, Fyne Ales and Cross Borders Brewing.
Whileย Manchester's Shindigger and London's Gypsy Hill will also be making their way north for the festival.
Joe Dick from renowned importer James Clay will be offering up a selection of classic Belgian Lambics from Boon Brewery, Timmermans and 3 Fonteinen alongside a range of delicious sours from around the globe. alongside a range of delicious sours from around the globe.
