The event, which runs from 6 October until 13 October, aims to encourage the general public to eat more seafood more often and to champion the quality and variety of fish and shellfish available in the UK.

The campaign will showcase a different seafood species on each of the eight days, as well as featuring a daily ‘inspiration of the day’ to promote different fish dishes.

Seafood Week kicked off with the popular social media event #fishpunday which encourages the public to create their own fish puns on Twitter and is an opportunity for brands to interact with consumers and increase their own levels of engagement.

Seafish has teamed up with Stockbridge Local to engage with local businesses for fish-themed week, with a campaign offering 20 per cent off seafood during the week at Armstrong’s Fishmonger, Franco’s Fish & Chips, Hectors Bar, Stockbridge Restaurant & Taisteal.

The campaign is helping the community by raising brand awareness of businesses that sell or serve fish and driving footfall into the local businesses and feeding into the national campaign.

Golden Wonder are also involved in the campaign, as the brand was founded in Stockbridge 70 years ago and recently launched their ‘chippie’ range of crisps in three different flavours Curry, Salted and Salt & Vinegar.

Gordon Craig of Taisteal said: “Scottish Seafood is the best in the world and having that on my door step makes my life a lot easier when you can let the ingredients do the talking.”

While Jane Walker of Stockbridge Restaurant added: “Fresh fish leads itself to lots of interesting flavours to create tasty combinations of texture and taste.”

Seafish marketing manager Heather Middleton said: "We are delighted that the businesses in Stockbridge are showing their support to Seafood Week.

"Our annual seafood celebration is a great way to encourage the general public to buy and try different types of fish and shellfish. In the UK we can sample over 100 different types of seafood and it is great to hear about all the different ways the Stockbridge businesses are enticing their customers to buy and eat seafood this week.

“Seafood is great for our health, so much so that experts all over the globe recommend we eat two portions of fish a week. What better way to make sure you eat your two portions of seafood this week than visiting Stockbridge and choosing some seafood to eat from one of the participating businesses.”
