Three options will be available: a wonky veg box for £3, a standard box for £5, and an organic box for £8.

A standard box contains 4.2kg of veg including a kilo of carrots, a kilo of onions, 500g of cauliflower and the same of swede, 400g of savoy, 300g of courgettes and 500g of leeks. The other boxes contain a similar amount. While the vegetables will be sourced from sixty British growers across the country, some of the wonky veg box produce may come from overseas.

The boxes will be available nationwide from September 28, and can be ordered online from the 2nd October.

Morrisons is launching an affordable seasonal veg box range that are a fraction of a price of a typical veg box delivery.

“We’ve listened to our customers who told us they want even more affordable veg,” said Morrisons Vegetable Buyer Andy Todd. “They are a great way for our customers to buy British or eat seasonally or feed the family for the week.”

Similar veg boxes from companies like Abel & Cole or Riverford Organic cost £13. Other delivery services like Ocado also offer more expensive options. Morrisons is the first major supermarket to offer year round vegetable boxes.

The vegetable selection will change with the seasons, and if there is demand there may be boxes available of different sizes for different numbers of people (the current box is designed for a family of four for five days.)

In an online trial earlier this year 2,000 boxes were bought a week.
