Ayrshire family butchers aim to revolutionise scotch pies with the launch of their innovative new range

A family butcher business based in Ayrshire has made a bid to revolutionise the humble scotch pie as its new innovative Single Portion Pie range is rolled out in all 62 Asda stores across Scotland.

We hae meat – based at Cairnhill Farm, four miles east of Girvan – believe the Scotch pie category has become increasingly constrained by lack of choice and unadventurous fillings.

Through the creation of a new range inspired by current flavour trends – including BBQ Pulled Pork, Balmoral Chicken, BBQ Pulled Beef and Chicken Curry – We hae meat is shaking up the traditional image of the Scotch pie.

Combining Quality Assured meat from the family farm with ingredients from other carefully selected producers, the meat fillings reflect consumer demand for provenance and traceability.

The finished result hails the arrival of the modern Scotch pie.

We hae meat – run by husband and wife team Carlyn and Alex Paton – employ over 50 people and produce a range of premium, handcrafted meat products using beef sourced directly from their family farm in Ayrshire.

“Here’s to introducing a new wave of Scotch pie to the Scottish people!”

Speaking of the Single Portion Pie launch, Carlyn Paton – Director of We hae meat – said: “Through the Single Portion Pie range, we’ve given the Scotch pie a contemporary makeover; using the kind of flavours and fillings that we – as a young modern family – would like to eat.

“As butchers who are relatively new to the industry, we are proud to look at product development with fresh eyes and pick what we think will give the very best result, whether that’s a recipe inspired by tradition or current trends.

Brian O’Shea, Regional Buying Manager for Asda Scotland, commented: “The Scotch pie is a huge part of our national identity but is at risk of getting stuck in the past if it remains bridled by convention.

“We are delighted to be exclusively stocking this revolutionary new take on the traditional Scotch pie.

“The innovative flavours made with delicious,  ingredients are exactly what our customers want. We hae meat has really hit the nail on the head with their exciting new range.”

Launched exclusively into Asda stores this week, the Single Portion Pie range will retail at £1.50 each.
