Orkney's first drive-thru sourdough pizzeria proves popular with tourists and locals

An Orkney pizzeria offering freshly made, woodfired sourdough pizza, is proving popular with locals and tourists.

Eviedale Bakehouse and Bistro in Orkney stayed open throughout lockdown, offering freshly made, woodfired sourdough pizza, which can be collected from their drive-thru pizzeria set up.

The island bakery and pizzeria, located in Evie village on the west mainland of Orkney. has seen huge support locally through lockdown, and is now benefiting from tourism returning to Orkney.

On the menu are freshly made sourdough pizzas, various breads and homebaking, which includes Belgian style sourdough waffles, Portuguese custard tarts and sourdough brownies.

The husband and wife team behind the Bakehouse and Bistro, Philippa and Ian Porritt, have carried on working through lockdown without a team and while shielding.

Speaking of the drive-thru pizzeria's popularity, Philippa said: "We have been operating right through lockdown and beyond with our high quality wood fired sourdough pizza and sourdough bread, keeping the island stocked with much needed essentials and treats during this difficult time.

"We are fully booked the three nights we are open, and our customer base has been locals during lockdown. But since the island opened up to tourism, we are getting holiday makers booking their takeaway drive-thru slot two and three weeks before they even arrive in Orkney, as they know from our Instagram that we book up fast."

For those wanting to try a woodfired pizza from this northerly pizzeria, bookings are required, which can be made via social media.

The team will then confirm a collection time and pre-payment. The contact-free collection is via the drive-thru.

The Eviedale Bakehouse and Bistro drive-thru pizzeria is open from Friday to Sunday, 4.00pm-8.30pm.
