Ahead of the launch of the much anticipated Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2024 on 5 January, Michelin has announced this year’s Bib Gourmand awards.

What is the Michelin Bib Gourmand?

Named after Bibendum – the Michelin Man – the Bib Gourmand distinction highlights restaurants which offer ‘good quality, good value cooking’.

20 UK and Ireland restaurants gained Michelin Bib Gourmands in the 2024 Guide.

Tipo in Edinburgh was the only Scottish restaurant to gain the accolade this year, and the first since 2022.

Named after the finest grade of flour in Italy most commonly used for making pasta, tipo is a casual dining restaurant serving small plates and comes from the team behind Noto and Aizle.

The Michelin team said of the restaurant: "British, Mediterranean and Italian cuisines all influence the menu, which provides plenty of flavour and value for money.

"The small plates selection is mightily appealing, but it's the seriously good homemade pastas like bigoli cacio e pepe that most catch the eye."

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of The Michelin Guide said: “It is a joy to see 20 restaurants newly awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in the 2024 edition of The MICHELIN Guide Great Britain & Ireland.

"These are establishments that deserve recognition for their continued commitment to offering affordable, delicious cooking.

"The generosity and value for money they offer is wonderful to see during these challenging economic times.”
