The Dockyard Social aims to serve up perfect Christmas weekend with 'naughty or nice' theme

Glasgow's newest indoor street food market, which has proved massively popular since its launch, is set to host a Christmas event with a difference this weekend.

Following its successful launch weekend, The Dockyard Social is returning on the 16th and 17th of December, with a festive twist.

Asking street food fans whether they are 'Naughty or Nice' the event will have two contrasting themes, the 'Nice' family-friendly version during the day will feature Santa’s grotto, decoration making for the kids and mulled wine for the adults.

While the 'Naughty' evening session will see those on the 'naughty list' arriving after 6pm to meet Bad Santa in Santa's Gritty Grotty, which will be found in the Pop-up Jack Daniel’s Bar, The White Rabbit Saloon.

Where the nefarious version of Father Christmas will be dishing out free arrival drinks and inviting "all the naughty customers to come and sit on his lap”.

Featuring new food traders - some bringing a new festive twist to their menus, bars serving up delicious hot Christmas drinks and live music ranging from the great acoustic sets during the day to Disco and Hiphop with Berkeley suite DJs at night, the team behind the event are describing it as the "Christmas night out you've been begging for”.

To find out what is in store, or to book a ticket you can head to, and doing so guarantees entry and gets you an arrival drink on the Dockyard team, you can choose from a pint of Estrella Galicia, a glass of Wine, or a special festive cocktail.

The Dockyard Social is described by co-founder Kyle Steel as “a single, vast street food market in an iconic area in the West End of Glasgow - a place to come for an exciting and constantly changing array of global comfort food, incredible beers, and seasonal cocktails.”

He said: “We’ve had an incredible response after our first event, and are blown away with the welcome into the Finnieston and Kelvinhaugh community so openly, and hope to repay the warm wishes with sustained development of food brands, staff and tutors
through our training and development school.”

The team say they are keen to establish The Dockyard Social School within the venue, which will be used to "support great causes and initiatives across the country" when they open the doors for it to be used as a "professional school to nurture up and coming talent".

Kyle likens the project to Dinerama in London, a bustling cluster of stalls and bars in trendy Shoreditch, and says he “wants to offer a dynamic addition to the inspiring food scene here in Glasgow, we aim to help reduce unemployment and help those in need as well as having a platform for incredible food traders.”

He added: “Whether you’re a brand-new food business finding your feet, or have fallen on hard times, we want to build a facility to help equip you for the road ahead.

"We’re giving back to Glasgow with our own training and development school to help get Glasgow’s most disadvantaged people launched into an exciting and growing industry."

There will also be a specific employability service for local homeless/unemployed people who can benefit from accessing training, work experience, career support and job matching, with these employment programmes will be in partnership with local
and national charities.

Kyle epxlained: “We’re doing this to change lives, we’re a local start-up for local start-ups.

“It’s a brilliant industrial space and will offer a wide variety of food concepts - so stalls with Bao buns, corn tacos, wood fired pizza etc - and four bars, all changing on a rotational basis.

"We aim to deliver an incredibly unique dining experience while giving opportunities to help encourage, inspire and give opportunities to struggling key sectors across Glasgow.

Tickets for entry to the event are priced at £5pp, which includes an arrival drink from a variety of cocktails, Beers and Wine. Then all food dishes are priced at £5.
