Five healthy places to eat out In Glasgow

Health food blogger Kezia Hall picks out her top five healthy, fast and delicious places to grab some food when in Glasgow

I have to confess when I moved back to Glasgow a few years ago it felt like a bit of a desert in terms of healthy places to eat. I had plenty of options to eat cake or down some deep fried haggis but if I wanted to grab a fresh smoothie or, god forbid an almond latte, then it was a bit of a nightmare.

But it seems that that is no longer the case. Now you easily grab some tasty and fast healthy food on days when you're just too busy to make a packed lunch (or even just if you're just the kind of person who is more inclined to use the oven as an additional storage for your shoes or ties rather than to actually cook with).

So here are my top five healthy, fast and delicious places to grab some food when in Glasgow.

Martha's

(142A St Vincent St, Glasgow, Glasgow City G2 5LQ)

This place is a saving grace if you're in the city centre at lunch time and want some decent, healthy handmade food. I always go for one of their hot curry options and normally match it with one of their green smoothies. Decently priced, super speedy and tastes awesome.

Stereo

(22-28 Renfield Ln, Glasgow G2 6PH)

Just down the road you have Stereo, a gig venue come vegan restaurant which serves tasty animal free grub all day long.

I have had a gluten free and vegan pizza here and it was surprisingly delicious. Well priced and a cool place to grab dinner or lunch, even my meat loving husband approved!

Island cafe with stunning views to team up with Michelin-recommended Edinburgh restaurant for one-off supper club

Juice Garden

(223 Byres Rd, Glasgow G12 8UD)

This place became my saving grace as I struggled to find anywhere in Glasgow that sold fresh juice and green smoothies!

Located in the city centre and the west end, this is a great little place to enjoy a long almond latte with a friend or as somewhere to grab a speedy - and tasty - lunch.

They also have some raw cake options as well as a selection of tasty soups, all with an effortlessly cool atmosphere.

Wholefoods

(124-134 Fenwick Road. Glasgow. G46 6XN)

This is my mecca. Situated on the Southside of Glasgow in Giffnock, it is the perfect place to spend too much money and eat some awesome food.

There is a cafe where you can literally get any food you like - from salad bars to fresh juice, herbal tea, fresh cakes or hot food. Ranging from super nutritious to not remotely healthy, this is the oh so perfect family food option.

El Perro Negro and Ka Pao team up for kitchen takeover in Glasgow

Plus there is normally some awesome tasters available as well as a great gingerbread display at this time of year.

Tapa

(721 Pollokshaws Rd, Strathbungo, Glasgow, G41 2AA)

Now this is close to home for me and I love it! This 100 per cent organic cafe is a great lunch and breakfast options with epic salads (you know the kind that actually fill you up), delicious organic coffee they roast themselves, an organic bakery and loads of gluten free, vegan and meat options to boot. Again found on the Southside but not far from the city centre and well worth the trip!

So next time you fancy a brunch, lunch or cheeky dinner, know that you can eat some awesome food in Glasgow and do your body some good!
