Contestants will be challenged to make their tastiest vegetable cake, be it carrot, beetroot, courgette or perhaps something more unusual, and are encouraged to be as creative as they like.

A winner from each heat will go through to the final, where they wll be expected to create their biggest, best, fanciest or quirkiest cake in an attempt to win the first ever Cake Off crown and a prize of £250.

"Past finalists prove there is a wealth of talent within Scotland’s baking industry, so we can’t wait to see what North Berwick’s finest brings to the table."

North Berwick Cake Off is part of Fabulous Food Fest which celebrates the range of fantastic produce and producers that Scotland has to offer and will run from the 8th until the 14th August.

Caroline Vevers, Founder of Fabulous Food Fest said: “Having lived in many places around the world I’ve sampled some great food but for me Scotland has one of the best larders in the world. And as a North Berwick resident, born and raised,

"I’ve seen the hard work and passion our producers apply to the Scottish food and drink industry. So it’s great to be able to celebrate their hard work at Fabulous Food Fest and get the word out there that North Berwick has a fantastic foodie scene!”

Organisers say the festival programme will target all ages and tastes with Entertainment on offer including a kids food show from ‘Tickles the Clown’, demonstrations from award-winning Scottish chefs, a return of the old TV favourite ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’ and Edinburgh Gin mixology and sampling.
