How Yu-ca-Taco are bringing Mexican street food to Glasgow

When you want the convenience of a takeaway with restaurant quality, tasty yet healthy food, what could be better than authentic Mexican dishes delivered to your door? Yu-ca-Taco is bringing Mexican street food to Glasgow.

When Kim Gemann and Liam Walls returned from travelling in South America to settle in Glasgow, they couldn’t believe they were unable to find good Mexican cooking in their new home city. So they began cooking it themselves and their business Yu-ca-Taco began.

Starting from a food truck which served alternative, inspiring dishes at festivals, markets and food events, their popularity grew and you can now order a complete dining experience to be delivered to your home.

This is a takeaway with a difference. Pre-order your ‘home kit’ on a Monday to Wednesday from a gourmet menu of starters, tacos and fillings, salsas and desserts. Then wait for it to arrive pre-prepared at your door later in the week.

Bringing authentic Mexican street food to Glasgow – order restaurant quality food to enjoy at home

The inspirational menu changes weekly and includes delicious stews, rice and Mexican fusion dishes. And all you have to do is put them in the oven for 20 minutes to heat them up and pop your tortillas in a pan. So everything is ready to go . . . when you want it.

Liam explains: “This is restaurant quality food to eat at home. But it’s not just your average takeaway, which can be underwhelming. The aromas of the food in the oven and plating it up make it a complete dining experience.”

Yu-ca-Taco’s loyal customers obviously agree, as many order weekly. Kim says: “This has really taken off and we are a lot more successful than we ever thought we would be. Many of our customers order every week and they have become a community, getting to know us and giving regular feedback.”

There is nothing ordinary about their food, so you would expect nothing less from Liam and Kim than their order confirmation texts which share funny, themed messages to entertain their customers.

“Passionate about our food, and about sharing it with anyone with tastebuds!”

As the couple follow the model of an authentic Mexican kitchen, their dishes are corn-based, which means they are gluten-free – as well as fresh and flavourful. They are also determined to show everyone how tasty salad and salsa can be!

By pre-ordering, they are able to be more environmentally-friendly, with little food waste in contrast to bigger, commercial kitchens. Their philosophy is to provide high-quality, locally sourced food at an affordable price, eliminating plastic waste by avoiding single-use plastic.

Liam adds: “We are passionate about our food and about sharing it with anyone with tastebuds!”
