There are lots of things that make Christmas special – the food, the gifts, and the fact that all the family is together.

But one of the best things about the festive season is undoubtedly Christmas films.

Few things beat getting out of the cold on a winter's day and watching a film with loved ones that warms the cockles of your heart.

These days, however, many people want to make watching the traditional Christmas movie an event, adding food or even alcohol to proceedings.

We've collected the biggest and best Christmas film events in and around Glasgow for you to escape for an afternoon, an evening, or even a whole day!

Grosvenor West End – It's a Wonderful Life

Even though it was made over 70 years ago, for many people It's a Wonderful Life has simply never been topped as a Christmas film.

The feel-good classic starring Jimmy Stewart as suicidal everyman George Bailey, has taken on traditions of its own as many people make sure to watch it every year.

The Grosvenor cinema in Ashton Lane in Glasgow's West End is showing the classic for three weeks straight, and are offering a special meal deal for festive cinemagoers.

Their ticket includes entry to It's a Wonderful Life, a bottle of wine for two to share, and two courses from their festive menu.

Inspired by the success of their movie nights over the past year, this Shawlands favourite is running weekly Christmas movie nights as we get closer to the big day.

The showings for Love Actually, and Elf have already sold out, with punters snapping up tickets for those films in early December.

There are still tickets available for undeniable classic Home Alone on December 14, and the two-person ticket includes a main course and soft drink each.

Blythswood Square Hotel – Love Actually/Home Alone 2

The perfect day out for those who don't fancy making a big night out of their Christmas movie experience, or want a classy setting.

Blythswood Square hotel has a private screening room with extra-comfortable Harris Tweed chairs that is great for those who need to hire out cinema for private events.

They also hold weekly cinema club screenings, and they still have two Christmas movie screenings available next month, with afternoon tea included.

New Scottish restaurants added to the Good Food Guide

Love Actually is being shown on Saturday 2nd December, with tea served at 1pm and the showing at 2.30pm, while Home Alone 2 is being screened the next day, with tea at 12.30pm and the movie beginning at 1.30pm.

There's even prosecco included for the over-18s who fancy a tipple.

O2 Academy – Home Alone House Party

Don't be put off by the name or the location, this is definitely a Christmas event for all the family.

The Academy, one of Glasgow's biggest and most popular music venues, are screening both Home Alone films back to back on Sunday December 10.

There's no need to commit to the Macaulay Culkin double bill though - you can buy a ticket for whichever film you prefer.

El Perro Negro and Ka Pao team up for kitchen takeover in Glasgow 

A portion of the profits are being donated to Simon Community Scotland and attendees can also donate clothing and sleeping bags.

There will be 90s music, in keeping with the movie theme, and Glasgow restaurant Pizza Punks will be giving free pizzas to the first 50 groups through the door.

Sloans – Various

One of the biggest programmes of Christmas cinema events comes from popular city centre bar Sloans.

The Christmas edition of their 'EatFilm presents...' series will show one of a variety of films virtually every day in December.

Elf, Arthur Christmas, Home Alone, and Miracle on 34th Street are among the movies that will be shown.

The ticket, which is for a table of two, includes a main course of a hot dog, macaroni cheese and fries, or nachos.
