What's the breakfast of champions?
No, not Coco Pops. It’s more likely to be something from the new Mark Beaumont for Rocco Forte Nourish menu, which launches today at The Balmoral, Edinburgh.
In partnership with this hotel's executive chef, Jeff Bland, these virtuous recipes have been designed by the Perthshire born ultra endurance athlete, who has cycled round the world and rowed the Arctic. Last year, he completed his African solo expedition, setting a new world record after cycling from Cairo to Cape Town in only 41 days and 10 hours.
As Beaumont explains, “Nutrition is a core part of well-being and something I take extremely seriously when training for ultra endurance challenges”.
Options on the stamina-promoting food list include the bonnie Scotland smoothie with wild Scottish berries, flax seeds and tofu (£7), a quinoa salad with guava, pistachio and rocket (£9.50), superfruit salad with goji berries, kaffir lime and exotic fruits (£7.50) and an egg white omelette with kale, sun-blushed tomato and fine herbs (£9).
No bacon sarnies.
Try it out at Hadrian’s brasserie for breakfast, from 7 until 10.20am; as part of the all-day Spa Menu (use of spa facilities free if you're having a treatment, or £25 otherwise), or, for residents, as in-room dining.
Eat up, then get on your bike. (We won't judge if it's just for a spin round the block).
