TripAdvisor has announced its 2021 travellers’ choice awards which showcase the best restaurants from across the world.

The main top 25 TripAdvisor list includes fine dining restaurants globally, while other categories include best brunch spots, date night restaurants, vegan restaurants, everyday eats, picture perfect restaurants, new restaurants and quick bites.

These are broken down into regions including world, America, UK and Europe, Asia, Middle East, South America and South Pacific.

The top restaurants have been named based on TripAdvisor traveller reviews and experiences.

Within the top 25 fine dining restaurants in the world, Edinburgh's The Kitchin ranks at number 17 for 2021.

This comes at a time when chef and owner Tom Kitchin has come under fire for allegations made against him and senior staff over bullying of former employees.

Two other Edinburgh restaurants are named - Makars Gourmet Mash Bar is number two in the everyday eats category for the UK and Salt Cafe is ranked as the second best brunch spot in the world ranking.

Makars is, as the name suggested, a place for all things potato, but also has great value Scottish dishes.

Salt, located in Morningside, is well known for its brunch so will come as no surprise to regulars that it is getting rave reviews on TripAdvisor.

Glasgow restaurant E-Street Cafe is fourth in the brunch spot ranking and Samphire Seafood Restaurant in Inveraray is number five in the best date night restaurants.

E-Street Cafe in Glasgow's southside is a Springteen-themed spot that opened in 2019 and has been well known for brunch ever since.

Tucked away in the picturesque spot of Inveraray, Samphire Seafood Restaurant offers a menu of locally sourced seafood, meat and game.

“It’s no secret that the restaurant industry has taken a hit over the past year or so, but the good news is that would-be diners all over the world are hungrier than ever to dine out again,” said Martin Verdon-Roe, general manager of Hospitality Solutions at Tripadvisor.

“There is so much good out there to explore this summer and beyond and no matter what you’re craving, the Best of the Best Restaurants Awards is on hand to serve as a menu of options to satisfy your appetite.”
