On this episode of Scran, Rosalind went along to a special event which marked the start of celebrations to mark the Scotch Malt Whisky Society's 40th anniversary.
At the event, whisky fans from 13 countries gathered at The Vaults in Leith, Edinburgh to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, and meet the international whisky club’s founder Pip Hills.
Travelling from China, Japan, Australia, USA, Canada and across Europe, 17 of the Society’s members won a competition to select whiskies that will be released at the Society’s worldwide The Gathering events in September.
Rosalind spoke to some of these members, and sat down with Pip, this wonderful raconteur, to hear from him just how the society came about, the challenges and triumphs he faced over the years and what he thinks of the industry today. He also spoke about the part The Scotsman played in the SMWS at the start.
Rosalind also chatted to Andrew Dane, the new CEO of the society about what was going on and the celebrations that are taking place.
We’d love to hear from you for the next season’s episodes.
