The Outlander star's blended whisky has won a gold medal at this year's European Wine and Spirits Trophy.
The Europe Wine and Spirits Trophy is the biggest and one of the most prestigious wine and spirits competition in Europe. 85 judges, who are top buyers, importers, distributor, retailer or sommelier of wines and spirits judge entries from forty-five countries.
This gold medal will be added to The Sassenach's growing list of accolades which include Double Gold at this year's New York World Wine and Spirits Competition and, for the second time, two double gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Championship.
Heughan, who is set to start filming Men in Kilts series two in New Zealand, posted about the win and explained that the whisky is now available to buy in the UK once again. He also invited fans to join him for a festive dram this month.
The Outlander star also recently released a Tequila, which was made in collaboration with El Tequileño.
The Sassenach was first launched in America last summer and went on sale in the UK in December 2020.
The whisky is a nod to the nickname Sam’s character Jamie has given his on-screen love interest Claire on the show and realises a dream the Scots actor has had for a long time.
In late 2020 Sam Heughan joined us on our podcast Scran to chat about his whisky, as well as why he chose a blend over a single malt, how it was almost made in America and his re-discovered love of Scotland through filming Outlander.
