The Edinburgh Whisky Academy stated that in honour of the fact that passion for whisky brings people together they would like to share their whisky knowledge with those that need it.
Perfect for currently furloughed bar and hospitality staff through to beginners looking to discover how best to enjoy the popular spirit, the EWA offers a range of SQA approved whisky and gin courses for every knowledge level.
With each diploma course created to impart valuable knowledge and designed for those seeking an in-depth understanding of whisky, the EWA team explained that all qualifications have been developed with the involvement of notable experts within the industry, with each expert providing content according to their specialisms.
Kirsty McKerrow, who founded the EWA in 2015 to fill a vital gap in the whisky education market, said: “Last week, inspired by the spirit of support throughout the drinks industry during the coronavirus pandemic, we offered our clients complimentary access to our ‘Focus on Flavour’ online module.
“We wanted to help, even in a small way, those that might be missing out on vital education whilst away from their places of work. But we also wanted to help connect people through a shared love of whisky via our online platforms and alumni community.
“We were taken aback by the response, with appreciation from whisky professionals who accessed the course all over the world. This inspired us to go further and extend our offer not just across all of our courses, but to the consumer as well”.
The courses available are the online Introduction to Whisky Certificate, which is aimed at enthusiasts, satellite distributors, sales staff and tour guides. The online portfolio is complemented by two stand-alone modules, Focus on Flavour and Wake Up Your Whisky Nose as well as the comprehensive Gin School course.
The Diplomas consist of The Diploma in Single Malt Whisky, Diploma in the Art of Tasting Whisky and a Diploma in Gin.
