Fans of MD 2020 have been snapping up the stock of the latest flavour, after a local shop advertised it on their Facebook page.

Asiyah and Jawad Javed work together in their DAY TODAY Express store in Stenhousemuir, with Asiyah posting pictures of their stock on Facebook. While the couple strive to buy in different or limited editions, they weren't expecting the reaction they got when they announced they'd be stocking up on the new MD 2020 flavour, Electric Melon.

Speaking to the Scottish Grocer, Asiyah said that customers were queuing “round the whole shop” on the day Electric Melon came in.

“The roads were blocked before we even came back from the cash and carry,” she said. “We actually had to beep to get access to our shop, and when we parked the van and people saw that it was us, they all came out running, saying ‘I’m first, I’m first!’

“I have never seen it that bad, even when we had the bad snow. Nobody was as desperate for milk and bread as they were for the new flavour of MD.”

The drink has been so popular that the couple have had to limit customers to only two bottles each.

Known as Mad Dog 2020, the flavoured fortified wine has had a cult following in Scotland for years, despite being made in America. Owned and made by a New York based wine company, the MD refers to the company name, Mogen David rather than the commonly perceived 'Mad Dog'.
