Daftmill founder and owner, Francis Cuthbert, has always maintained that the whisky he makes is for drinking and sharing, and Royal Mile Whiskies has echoed this sentiment by launching a social media competition urging those who buy a bottle to do the same.

Commenting on the release, Royal Mile Whiskies’ sales and purchasing director, Arthur Motley, said: “It was one of the most pleasurable days of my whisky buying career, spending hours with Francis in his warehouse opening any cask we liked the look of. We think we have found a perfect example from one of my very favourite distilleries.”

Customers simply need to share an image of themselves on social media enjoying a dram of Daftmill 2006 Single Cask with their open bottle, and include the hashtag #CheersFrancis in order to be entered into a random prize draw.

Jonny McMillan, assistant reserve spirits manager at Daftmill’s distributor Berry Bros. & Rudd, added: “It’s very tempting with ‘rare’ bottles like this to squirrel it away for many years, or even flip it into auction, so we’re very excited to back Royal Mile Whiskies’ incentive to help persuade Daftmill fans to open and enjoy this glorious bottling.”

The lucky winner will receive a bottle of Royal Mile Whiskies’ and Berry Bros. & Rudd’s respective Daftmill single cask releases, signed by Francis himself, and an invitation to tour the distillery with him.

The 2006 single cask whisky comes from cask #44, a first-fill American Oak bourbon hogshead from Heaven Hill distillery, which was filled with Daftmill spirit on July 31st 2006 and bottled in May this year at a cask strength of 56% ABV.

The Royal Mile Whiskies team confirmed that the cask yielded just 231 bottles, thus representing a unique, and limited, opportunity to taste this much sought after whisky. Bottles are limited to one per customer will be available exclusively from Royal Mile Whiskies both online and in stores on Thursday 18th July for £144.95.

This latest campaign from Royal Mile Whiskies and Berry Bros. & Rudd follows on from the release of the ‘Mystery Cask’ bottling; a single cask whisky from an undisclosed distillery.

Customers are encouraged to open their bottle, taste the whisky, and guess the distillery it came from as well as its age. Bottles of the Mystery Cask are priced at £55 and are only available from Royal Mile Whiskies.
