The supermarket chain walked away with two Gold Awards and six Silver Awards – adding to its already impressive achievements across its spirits range.

Lidl UK’s Glen Orchy 5 Year Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (£13.29) and Glen Alba 22 Year Sherry Cask Finish Blended Scotch Whisky (£29.99) both received Gold Awards, beating a host of established brands such as Auchentoshan and Ben Nevis to the top accolades.

The Glen Alba 22 Year, described as having a “warm, rich and unctuous palate that gives way to a lingering, dry barley sugar finish”, achieved the top prize just weeks after it took home the crown of ‘World’s Best’ at the World Whiskies Awards.

Lidl UK’s whisky, which launched in stores in November 2015 as part of its Christmas collection has established its place among longstanding brands, beating products from globally renowned distilleries such as William Grant & Sons and The Glenmorangie Company.

Speaking about the win, Lidl UK Spirits Buyer Hannah Cvetkovic said: “It is fantastic to be recognised once again for our Scotch whisky range. Achieving two Gold Awards as well as a host of Silvers is an acknowledgement of the exceptional quality inherent in the products we develop for our customers. We are thrilled that our Glen Alba 22 Year has once again been recognised for its outstanding quality and we hope to further this success as our spirits range continues to evolve.”
