Gordon & MacPhail Generations Mortlach 70yo fetches £17,500

The rare bottle of Mortlach fetched £17,500 at auction in Edinburgh – equivalent to £875 per dram.

The Gordon & MacPhail Generations Mortlach 70-year-old was distilled in 1938 at Mortlach Distillery, Dufftown, in Moray.

It was matured at the distillery and later the bonded warehouses of Gordon & MacPhail, and was sold to a telephone buyer from Hong Kong yesterday.

Martin Green, Bonhams’ whisky specialist, who had predicted the rare bottle might go to the Far East, said: “This was an extremely rare whisky, with only 54 bottles ever produced.

“I’m not surprised it made such a high price.”
