The new series of virtual events will be hosted by Forbes whisky writer, author and World Whisky Awards judge Felipe Schrieberg and feature whisky tasting packs curated and delivered by whisky subscription service The Dram Team.

Anyone in the UK mainland will be able to enjoy an intimate whisky and tasting experience from the comfort of their own home.

Running seven tastings a week, Tuesdays through Sundays with two sessions on Saturdays, Felipe will lead small groups of guests through the selection of specially selected whiskies, with participants receiving six different drams to enjoy.

For Schrieberg, providing online experiences is part of a necessary pivot that the whisky industry must make given the current situation, he explained: “Since whisky is all about enjoying a unique moment, it makes sense to provide special events for whisky beginners and connoisseurs alike that work despite the limitations self-isolation is placing on us during the current pandemic.

"We’re aiming to entertain and educate with these tastings, but most importantly the whisky we’re delivering is going to be delicious.”

Dram Team founder Chris Borrow is also looking forward to getting the tastings started, he added: “I started the Dram Team so that people could explore whisky and enjoy a high-end tasting experience in the comfort of their own home.

"When Felipe approached me about taking our whisky-tasting-by-post concept to the next level with his Virtual Whisky Masterclass idea, I leapt at the chance – and I’m really excited to get started and see how it goes.”

The tastings will be hosted on Zoom, a videoconferencing programme that’s easy to use and connect to, with tickets and vouchers available to purchase on event ticketing platforms Designmynight.com and TimeOut.

15 spots will be made available for each tasting session.

Priced at £35 (excluding booking fee) per person (or £65 for two), £2 from each ticket or voucher purchased on Designmynight.com will also be donated to the Trussell Trust, a UK foodbank network providing food for the country’s most vulnerable citizens.
