Auchentoshan has remained a staple on many a gantry and is rightly considered Glasgow's local malt. Auchentoshan is unique in that currently it is the only distillery (at time of posting) doing 100 per cent triple distillation. The triple distillation leads to a far smoother liquid. This makes it the ideal whisky for those of us looking for a smoother malt or beginners who are wanting to try malt whisky for the first time.
There are records of a distillery being set up in Duntocher as early as 1800 but it wasn't until 1823 and Mr Thorne, the then owner, bought the licence and made the distillery official. Auchentoshan was then bought over by Morrison Bowmore in 1984.
The distillery itself is easily accessible from Glasgow and the revamped visitor centre and friendly staff make it a must visit for anyone keen to see how this wonderful whisky is made.

Auchentoshan Classic: The entry level bottling for Auchentoshan is a perfect sipping whisky and a great one for fans of lighter style whiskies. It's also the perfect gift for those keen on trying malt whisky but having little or no experience.
Auchentoshan 12: Auchentoshan 12, or Auchy 12, as you're often likely to hear being requested in bars around Scotland, is a cracking malt. Replacing the old 10 year- old bottling. The vanilla and fruit notes are sure to be a hit for anyone who loves a good sipping whisky.
Auchentoshan Three Wood: The three cask maturation - Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, bourbon casks and Oloroso Sherry - make this malt a full-flavoured punch to the mouth. The balance of the three casks and the triple distillation make this a cracking wee dram to enjoy with friends all year round.
Auchentoshan Valinch: Named after the wonderful device used to draw whisky from the cask, Auchentoshan Valinch is a cask strength (57.2 per cent abv), no-age statement release. . Usually ex-bourbon cask matured, these releases are perfect showcases of Auchentoshan spirit as it should be -
