Speaking in a interview with Perth Now, Adelaide Casino manager Mike Thomas said the recent arrival of the bottle from Scotland made their bar the only bar in Australia to stock the entire core range of Glenfiddich aged single malts.
The bar already offered the 12, 15, 18, 21, 30, 40-year-old whiskies and jumped at the chance to take on the 50-year-old.
Mr Thomas said: “When we were approached by Glenfiddich to purchase it we understood there would only be one bottle available to Australia, and we thought the public have the right to be able to go to the place that has the whole family."
“We find these days it is about experience drinking. People will come out and spend that little extra to experience something they don’t get a chance to in life — you come in and experience a whisky like this, you’ve got bragging rights for life.”
The 50-year-old is part of a limited release of only 50 bottles from 2009 and is the only one of its batch available in Australia.
Joseph McLoud, a whisky enthusiast from Missouri in the US, was the proud purchaser of the first dram from the bottle.
The commercial real estate developer, who was holidaying in Adelaide said: “It was probably the best spirit I’ve ever tasted,”
“It tastes like ambrosia, or what I imagine ambrosia would taste like if it existed.
“It was very smooth, the very tail end of it had just enough bite to be delicious ... I just can’t put into words how delicious it was.
“I have the opportunity and the capital to enjoy some of these things so instead of not trying them I’m going to try them. Why not? Life’s short — might as well have a bit of fun.”
