As the big day is nearly upon us, it's the perfect time to ditch the busy shopping streets and head somewhere a bit more relaxing.
Scotland is playing host to a multitude of Christmas markets over the month of December, offering everything from home-made crafts, traditional Scottish cuisine to European street food.
We take a look at just a few worth visiting this festive season.
St Andrews Square, Edinburgh
The Christmas market in St Andrew Square is a popular destination amongst locals and tourists alike. Offering crafts, food and drink, the Scottish market gives revellers the opportunity to sample some of the best local produce while the European market in Mound Precinct is ideal for those looking for something a bit different.
The Quay, Glasgow
If you’ve got any money left over this weekend, head to the Festive Market at the Quay. The event on the 19th is free to attend and will be offering a range of gifts, crafts and food from a range of local producers. Visitors on the day will also be able to pick up money saving vouchers for the various restaurants for their next trip to The Quay - ideal for the January blues.
St Enoch’s Square, Glasgow
Located in the centre of the main shopping streets, Glasgow’s market is a haven for those tired of the harsh shop lighting and last minute gift grabbing. Taking a stroll around the beautifully lit cabins relieves all Christmas stress and invites you to indulge in the delicious freshly made foods from crepes to burgers.
Union Terrace, Aberdeen
The city’s first Christmas village is must visit attraction over the festive season. Spearheaded by Aberdeen Inspired, the village includes German market stalls offering the best of the country’s cuisine from bratwursts to a nice cold beer.
Union Street, Inverness
If you’re looking to find some unique gifts to give your loved on, head to Inverness’ Victorian market or stop and browse Leakey’s second-hand bookshop. The shop, which is based in a converted church, is believed to be one of the largest of its kind in Scotland.
High Street, Perth
Perth’s city streets have been transformed into a winter wonderland and the ideal day out. As well as its eclectic independent range of shops and cafes, Perth is hosting a traditional Christmas market where you can pick up something that can’t be found on the high street. Their Alpine chalet-style stalls and heated marquee is perfect for the December weather and makes browsing the freshly-cooked artisan street foods stalls with a glass of mulled wine that bit more enjoyable.
Merchant City, Glasgow

The Merchant City craft fair takes place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout December and showcases the work of some Glasgow’s best crafters. Ideal for a rainy winter weekend as it all takes place in the courtyard.
