Many students will soon be adjusting to life away from home, trying to get to grips with the cost of living and, most importantly, how far their student loans will stretch.
However, according to a new report by savings site VoucherCodes.co.uk, those studying in Edinburgh will be able to breathe a sigh of relief, as research by the website has revealed they enjoy the third cheapest student nights out in the UK at just £23.
The study looked at the cost of a night out in 23 of the top UK university cities to find out where students will get the most bang for their buck, taking into consideration the cost of club entry, five drinks, a regretful kebab, and an Uber back to halls.
Swansea topped the value chart with £1 entry and £2 drinks at popular student club ‘Popworld’. After a £6 kebab, an Uber back to ‘Singleton Park Campus’ was only £4 - bringing the total for the night to just £21.
Bristol came in second place at just £1.50 more (£22.50), with student favourite ‘Propaganda’ offering the cheapest drinks on a Saturday night for only £1 each.
While students in Sheffield can feel smug too as they can bag the cheapest kebab at just £3.40.
Glasgow students get lucky when it comes to taxi costs, the estimated journey between The Garage night club and Cairncross House halls was £4.00 - meaning the city has one of the lowest Uber estimates per mile at approximately £1.10.
Surprisingly, London was not the most expensive city for a student night out – this accolade goes to Bath where a night out will cost £38.20, a staggering 82 per cent more than Swansea.
Bath’s students will find themselves paying £4 entry and £3.50 for drinks at the ‘Moles” club, followed by a £5.70 kebab at ‘Pizza Diana’’ and a 15 minute estimated Uber journey back to ‘Norwood house halls’ costing £11.00.
Anita Naik, consumer lifestyle editor at VoucherCodes, says: “Managing your finances is all part of the learning curve of going to university. It’s a difficult balance between sticking to your budget and going out with new friends and making the most of being independent.
“My biggest piece of money saving advice for students would be to do their research online to find the best prices and always ask in the venue for student offers, just in case they’re not advertised.
"It’s not all about making sure you save on nights out either, almost all stores and restaurants will give a discount to students so it’s possible to save on almost everything. You can find our top money saving tips on the VC Student Blog, as well as our favourite student offers and deals.”
