The Gannet is an independent restaurant and bar in the heart of Glasgow’s Finnieston neighbourhood, an area that is increasingly becoming a must-visit destination for foodies across the world.
Opened by owners Peter McKenna and Ivan Stein in 2013, The Gannet has been acclaimed for mixing serious food and service with a relaxed and informal style.
Peter McKenna said: “On this week two years ago, we opened the doors of The Gannet to the public for the first time. Who would have thought that we would be accepting such a prestigious award in a short space of time? There are so many fantastic restaurants in Scotland, so we are honoured and humbled to be awarded AA Scottish Restaurant of the Year 2015/2016.”
A Glasgow restaurant hasn’t taken the award since seafood institution Rogano won in 2012, and Ryan James, Chairman of the Glasgow Restaurant Association and owner of his own celebrated Glasgow restaurant collection, Two Fat Ladies, feels The Gannet’s win reflects Glasgow’s thriving dining scene.
He said: “Congratulations to Ivan, Peter and all of the team at The Gannet. Their excellence and promotion of local produce and producers is an example to all restaurants. The Gannet’s win really shows that the Glasgow restaurant scene is flourishing and that Glasgow has become a fantastic city for developing independent talent. The Gannet’s success helps augment Glasgow’s position as one of the best places to eat out in the UK.”
