The Glendronach unveils 30 and 40 year old whiskies - a 'new era in sherry cask'

The Highland whisky distillery has recently launched two of their oldest whiskies.

The Glendronach Distillery, known for their sherry cask maturation since 1826, recently announced the release of two expressions: The Glendronach 30-Year-Old and The Glendronach 40-Year-Old, 2025 Edition.

Following last year's celebrated relaunch of The Glendronach, these whiskies represent the culmination of decades of patience and unwavering dedication to the distillery’s craft.

Each expression is a testament to the character drawn from the finest Spanish sherry casks, which have been in the distillery’s traditional dunnage warehouses in the Valley of Forgue. Both are available in select global markets now.

The Glendronach 30-Year-Old: A Symphony of Sherry Casks

The Glendronach 30-Year-Old is described as a "captivating Highland Single Malt that showcases the sublime artistry of marrying whisky from three distinct styles of sherry cask."

Master blender Rachel Barrie has expertly woven together the character of spirits matured in Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso, and, for the first time, Amontillado sherry casks to create a whisky of exceptional richness and layered complexity.

She said: "With the 30-Year-Old, we have composed a symphony from our most historic sherry cask styles.

"Three decades of maturation have resulted in a sublime and charming Single Malt, with generous layers of rich and complex character. It is the ultimate expression of our dedication to the art of sherry cask maturation.”

The inclusion of the Amontillado cask adds a particularly sophisticated layer of toasted hazelnut and mellow crème caramel, which complements the signature notes of dark cherry, chocolate, and spiced fruit from the Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso casks.

Presented in a luxurious case crafted from stained Walnut Curl Veneer, its surface is engraved with 30 facets to honour the three decades of maturation within.

The Glendronach 40-Year-Old, 2025 Edition: The Pinnacle of Artistry

The Glendronach 40-Year-Old, 2025 Edition, is described as "the ultimate expression of the distillery’s craft and a unique opportunity for connoisseurs to experience a true masterpiece."

This whisky was composed from a small number of hand-selected casks, which were married and refined over four decades in the finest Spanish Oak Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, resulting in a whisky of profound richness and a plush, velvet texture.

“I am honoured to share this exceptionally distinctive Single Malt,” said Ms Barrie. “At forty years old, it represents four decades of sherry cask refinement, polished by time to become the ultimate expression of The Glendronach. It is a privilege to be the custodian of such remarkable casks.”

This 2025 Edition is housed in an elegant presentation box crafted from dark stained rosewood, featuring brass handles and resting on a golden plinth, reflecting the extraordinary depth and character of the whisky within.

The Glendronach 30 Year Old is available now at £1,000 and The Glendronach 40 Year Old is priced at £4999.95.
