Comprising three individual bottlings - The First, Second, and Third Editions - The Fifty Collection stands as a tribute to tradition, expertise, and the enduring spirit of The Balvenie; reflecting the interwoven stories of the many whisky makers at The Balvenie distillery that have contributed to the liquid.
The Third Edition is a marriage of three Fifty-Year-Old casks selected by malt master, Kelsey McKechnie. Building on the first two releases - a European oak refill butt and an American oak hogshead, both filled in 1973 - the Third Edition introduces a final American oak barrel filled in 1974, completing the trilogy.
The Third Edition of The Balvenie Fifty Collection reveals, the team says, “layers of buttery pastry, confectionary delights, golden Manuka honey and ripe soft fruit, gently interwoven with a subtle oak spice.”

Only 45 bottles will be available globally, marking one of the rarest and most compelling releases ever from The Balvenie Distillery. The Third Edition is available exclusively in Harrods throughout the month of July and will become available in select retailers worldwide from August 2026.
The collection is a trilogy that celebrates five decades of craftsmanship at the distillery. Each edition reflects a distinct maturation journey, shaped by the makers who have nurtured the whisky over time.
Kelsey McKechnie, The Balvenie Malt Master, said: “The Balvenie Fifty Collection pays tribute to the makers, craftspeople and custodians who have watched over our liquid for the past five decades. It’s a privilege to select the casks which make up this celebration of our legacy, and I am thrilled that we can finally share this special dram.
“Marrying together rare casks to create something extraordinary is a fitting testament to the stories that precede each cask. For The Third Edition, we selected an American oak barrel filled in 1974, bringing a balance and depth to the final composition.
“It has a sweet, honeyed note and gentle oak spice complementing the European butt and American hogshead of the First and Second Editions, creating contrast and continuity across the trilogy. The collection reflects our respect for tradition and our commitment to looking to the future by preserving the rare crafts of whisky making from barley to bottle.”
The Balvenie craftspeople, led by the former malt master David C. Stewart came together in 1973 and again in 1974 to fill these casks, starting decades of watchful stewardship and marking the beginning of The Balvenie Fifty Collection’s journey.
Many of those craftspeople still work for The Balvenie today; through their dedication to the brand’s five rare crafts, many new practices in whisky making have been put in place over the last half a century, with innovations in cask finishing being one of the most significant.
Today, Kelsey continues this legacy with her approach to marrying and remarrying of casks, creating a signature flavour profile across The Balvenie Collection that is complex and unique to each edition.
The Fifty Collection is enhanced by the magnificent bespoke packaging. Each presentation contains over 100 different elements, including seven layers of wood in the helix structure, each less than one-tenth of a millimetre thick and a crafted 14 carat gold plated brass display. In comparison to the first two releases, The Third Edition will display an even darker wood stain applied to the grain, while each hand-blown bottle will be individually numbered.
The Balvenie Fifty Collection Third Edition, bottled at ABV 50.3%, and priced at £42,500, will be exclusively available at Harrods throughout the month of July 2026, before being available in select retailers worldwide. The Third Edition, is the final release in The Fifty Collection, completing the trilogy.
