The legendary Robert the Bruce, King of the Scots was seen as the mastermind behind the defeat of the English at Bannockburn in 1314 which returned independence to Scotland.
Euan MacEachern, head distiller at Levenbank Distillery said: “No distillery in or around Dumbarton – an area that for almost 50 years from 1935 was recognised as the whisky capital of the world - would be complete without grain whisky.
“Our single grain whiskies will be formed from a number of successful and amplified beer recipes we have produced over the years from imperial stouts to barley wines and wee heavies.
“Rye will also feature in our single grain production and in our typical artisanal style we will look to small release batches utilising more than one style of rye malts including crystal and chocolate rye as well as the more traditional malt.”
Levenbank Distillery is the Lowland’s newest whisky distillery, located in Dumbarton near the banks of the River Leven.

Founded by Fiona and Euan MacEachern, the visionary team behind the acclaimed Loch Lomond Brewery, they are bringing a fresh approach to whisky-making by blending traditional distilling methods with a brewer’s expertise, creating a range of innovative, flavour-forward spirits.
The experimental ethos includes utilising speciality malts such as crystal and chocolate malts to impart complex flavours to their whiskies.
This approach challenges conventional whisky production methods, placing a greater emphasis on the new make spirit's intrinsic character alongside cask maturation.
Also creating a range of innovative single grain whiskies, Levenbank will adapt recipes from robust beer styles to provide the wash from which they will then distil.
