Where's the best place in Edinburgh to get a good coffee?

That's the question a new app developed in the capital hopes to always have an answer to.

Edinburgh Coffee Lovers has launched an eponymous iOS app developed by Pru Whitehall, a coffee aficionado who lives in the capital.

The app, which costs 0.79p, promises to map the city's best independent vendors of cappuccinos, flat whites and lattes.

Edinburgh Coffee Lovers, which is developing an Android app, will supply photos, reviews and star ratings for each establishment.

"We want to help you find the best independent coffee shops in beautiful Edinburgh - quickly and easily, whether you're online or offline," the app description says.

"Your location will show up on our city map alongside the the best coffee shops. You can choose the coffee shop that suits your style and mood based on the rating, review and photo."

Whitehall, an Australian coffee blogger who moved to Edinburgh seven years ago, said: "I created Edinburgh Coffee Lovers to help locals and visitors find great coffee in Edinburgh, quickly and easily.

"I believe that Edinburgh’s best baristas are world-class and that Edinburgh can become a coffee-destination for visitors. My vision is for visitors to seek out our independent coffee shops and keep our coffee scene and small businesses thriving.

“When I first arrived there were only a handful of high quality coffee shops in the whole of Edinburgh.

"Now we’ve got a lot more choice - coffee shops whose main focus is high quality, ethically sourced coffee made by expert baristas are opening up regularly, which is great for consumers.”
